Franciscan Youth / Young Adult

Franciscan Youth USA Mission Statement

U.S. YouFra is the name of the "Franciscan Youth / Young Adult" movement in the United States. This is a world-wide movement which has existed for many years. Last year (2008) at the SFO 12th General Assembly, the relationship of the YouFra and the SFO changed, that is, they are now an integral part of the Secular Franciscan Order, with a Presidency-Councillor (Ana Fruk, of Croatia) on the SFO International Council (CIOFS). Further information can be found in Koinonia 2009-2, a publication of the SFO International Spiritual Assistants.

The U.S. YouFra organization, formerly directed and animated by the FYYA Commission, is in a period of change, because of the changes from the top. As explained in the www.franciscanyouthusa.com website, the two-year interim FYYA Council will lay the groundwork for the 2010 election of a National Franciscan Youth President and Council. According to the SFO General Constitution (GC), Title VII FRANCISCAN YOUTH, Article 96 and 97: “The SFO fraternities will promote the vocation to the Franciscan Youth by means of appropriate and dynamic initiatives.” GC 97.1 “The Franciscan Youth has a specific organization, methods of formation, and teaching methods adequate for the needs of the world of youth, according to the exiting realities in the various countries.” GC 96.5.
